I heard of the contriversy over the 1145 Squamkin. My question is ??? would it be a good cross w/ a true greenie to increase the size. Better chance of keeping green than crossing w/pupmkin.. just a winter thought!

There was not a lot of green in that squmpkin. Could it be a good cross for green genes. Maybe, but there is no green in any of its background. Staying green with size is a concern. A better bet might be the 611.5* Hester 99, if you can find it. It throws orange but has many green genes to go with it. As a male pollinator it could do wonders for the green gene and it has produced a few over 1000 pound fruit too.

I have not seen any green grown from the 611 as pollinator...nor as a female.....so I canr see how one could say it adds green genes to the mix....

There was hardly any green on that thing. shame... cause Shannon would have won the weigh off with it.

Ben, The GPC rules are very clear. Each site is also issued a series of pictures that the judges to use as a guide. Everyone of the judges ruled Shannon's fruit as a "squash". If you do not agree with GPC rules, so be it!
