I live in the North East and it has been cloudy for 10 days with about 5 inches of rain in that period. My pumpkin is growing slowly, adding 1 to 2.5 inches circumfrance a day.
When the sun come out will it grow faster

Hopefully yes! Pumpkin plants love sunshine! You should probably be using a fungucide with all that rain, if you're not already. Powdery mildew is starting to rear it's ugly head!

i was wondering how effective spraying a fungicide would be while it's still raining every day ? does anyone know if one product has more "staying power" than another ?
an aside to the fungicide issue, i noted masses of what appeared to be fruit fly sized and shaped flies all over any exposed main vines. any need to worry ? terminate with extreme prejudice ?
thanx for any input.

Duff,

Sounds like mites or aphids! Try to spray the underside of leaves with insecticide as well as top side. I'd also spray those bugs and then cover your vines with dirt! When it rains more you'll probably have to use fungicide more often, let your conscience be your guide! When spraying anything, (roundup, fungicide, insecticide), use a "spreader, sticker" available at most pro-garden stores. It will make your spray "spread and stick" better and gives you more bang for the buck! This stuff is concentrated, only takes a drop or two!

This weather is driving me nuts! The weather-man said it was going to start getting better. So I sprayed my plants last night in hopes the spray would not get washed off. The pouring rain woke me up last night (again)! Does the sun still exist?

kilr, thanks for the info. the areas of infestation were on the elevated sections of vines around the the pumpkins, so i can't protect them by burying them. i was all set to apply a liberal dose of sevin this evening but found that all appeared terribly dormant...or dead !!! will see if there is any A.M. activity w/these fruit fly appearing bugs.
thanks again, good growing to all
