every year I have been growing packaged seeds.....Help me out with a qualified seed you know is good...I follow all your canadian updates and will keeep u informed of my proigress/....North shore, kahuna, dave m ., crammed, county boy...help me out ...the problem I have is the damn vine borers my record is 122lbs....keeping in mind I have a very small garden...(yeah garden only...LOLOLOLOL)...I read you diaries regularly... help me

I've got germination tests under way right now on my 674s. They'll be good candidates for orange. If all goes well I'll send you an email and make sure you get some seeds. By the way, my name is NSTransplant because I transplanted to Nova Scotia from Dundas...never grew pumpkins there though.

I was born in Hamilton (St. Joseph''s Hospital). If nobody helps you out, I will for old time's sake... It is easier to have seeds from Canada though as mine will have to go through customs.

Join the Giant Vegetable Growers of Ontario. For $20 a year you recieve lots of good seed, access to a their web-site, an invite to a patch tour and it looks like a growers seminar next spring. There's no better value out there.

Agree with CowPie it will be the BEST #20 youve spent in a long run, Last year I recived a baggie full of awsome seeds allot of seeds i couldnt grow last year do to space but this comeing 2006 I plan on growing one from last years recieved seeds.

With the GVGO package, although the pumpkin seeds are great, you'll also get all sorts of other vegetable seeds. I got watermelon, long gourd, long corn, tall sunflower, giant zucchini and some others.

It sounds like you're in the same boat as me. The GVGO seeds are the best seeds that I have. So, I don't expect to go out and buy any other ones. Something like a world record seed would be a waste on me and my puny patch. Maybe when I am more skilled and have better soil and more money, I could go out and buy a $300 dollar seed. But, it'll take me a couple of years to work through the ones that I already have.

Thanks to all who sent me an email or are sending me seeds..I so happy to be apart of this small community whom is willing to geive advise, seeds and such a great atmosphere......wish the rest of the world acted the same to each other....One more question THE DAMN SVB's every friggin year I get hit...what is or should I be doing to prevent them from hitting me...One thing I didnt do last year was bury the vines.....Next year its a guarenttee....anything else???..Again thanks to all.

What have you been doing for them so far?

As soon as I saw a SVB moth in my garden patch, on the advice of some of the folks here, I went out and got some "Ambush" from Wilson at Canadian Tire. I didn't see any more moths. But, then again, my main plant did die off early. So, maybe I had SVBs and just didn't know it until it was too late.

This year was the first bad year I had for SVB's. It doesn't make much sense with the tough winter we had last year. I used a systemic pesticide and had no problems with any bug but SVB's. I grew 5 plants and had them on all of them. Luckily I noticed them quickly and since I bury all my vines, except the crown and the vines going into the pumpkin, I knew where to look. I found the best way to get rid of them was to look for the tell-tale signs and dig them out with a bit of wire. Crude yet effective. Hopefully this year was an abnormal year for SVB's and they'll be less in '06.

I forgot to mention that if your a member of the GVGO, you should get 100's of pumpkin seeds from this year's pumpkins of our club members. This includes some of the heavy hitters in the hobby.

Sean, Get rid of the grass in your backyard and make a big giant garden fit for a giant pumpkin. There are a tremendous amount of good seeds out there that can easily spring you a large pumpkin. I would be happy to offer any assistance I can with seeds or advice.

Joining the GVGO not only gives you good seeds it allows you the support of all the membership too. Made in Ontario solutions to local problems have helped many growers to increase weights to new levels. In the past two years weights have been steadily rising at Port Elgin.

The growth of this hobby is reaching new realms as many 1st and 2nd year growers are beginning to get the bug. Would it be advisable to join now or wait until April to join the GVGO?? Maybe I should ask..when are the seeds sent out?

I'm trying to decide whether to just send for raffle tickets? Or to buy a membership and raffle tickets?? Although the website does say 2006 memberships available now, right??

You can join now and receive the Nov & Feb Editions of the Growers Vine newsletters, plus your membership seeds will come earlier (early March). Also you'll be eligible to get a 10% discount on any soil test from A&L Labs in London before you plant next spring. They are the only benefits of joining now instead of April.
