It would be interresting to know what we have this year. Just post your best result, or all your results, at the end of the season. Good luck.

Sophie - I'm wondering how your 977 Hester is doing. Did it grow well for you?

My only squash (895.5* Hester) splitted at 144 kg. I've got some seeds, but there are open pollinisated. My 977 Hester is still doing well. She is cream pink with no split at all... It seems to be a great seed for a great grower (I would say that a grower more exprerimented than me). I couldn't be at Duisburg, so I will go to a very local weighoff. Pumpkins will be cut and weigh this week-end. I haven't made mesurements but I hope 4 between 150-200 kilos (perhaps more?), and two others for Halloween lantern, perhaps 50 kilos each.

Jos and I went to the same exhibition....My AG was terribly small...but I'm very happy with my results, new PB, and hope to do better next year. Good luck to you all.

My first 2 places on the NRW state fair today: 307 kg / 684 lbs (+ 9 % heavy) for my 1236 Eaton x 1260 Weir, 277 kg / 617 lbs (+ 24 % heavy) for my 1260 Weir x 1236 Eaton. Though it doesn´t sound much but that´s also the 2 best german results for 2004 as I heard from Martin Reiss tonight. Come on german growers, that means work next year! What was wrong in 2004 (apart from the weather)? Maybe a new thread should be started to clear it up. However, congrats to all, Ingo

Ingo, I think it was mainly poor weather this year and that your pumpkins may have been about one third larger had the weather been better. I can't see any other explanation for all of the small pumpkins other than the normal mistakes that most growers make who don't have 30 years of experience.
Congrats on a new German record and it shouldn't matter whether it's official or not since the Ludwigsburg weigh-off is also not a GPC or WPC weigh-off site anyway. Michel

Michel, Ingo`s pumpkins are great - I like their shape, but the heavier one is no "new German record". Steffen Heckelmanns second place pumpkin 2003 and my own pumpkin (third place 2003 with 323,9kg) had been a little bit heavier. I don`t "count" the first place (2003) of E. Zygadlo, because it was a squash.

Peter, I guess Michel meant that Ingo's pumpkin is the biggest in Germany this year. I am pretty sure that he is aware of the existence of those two larger ones from last year...

PS: we arrived safely at home. Pumpkins and your clone are in excellent condition! Thanks again! Waiting for your pictures now....

Martin, There was something in a newspaper about Peggy Zygadlo having a new german record this year. Did anyone see anything like that in the paper? I have to try to get a copy of it and read the article but that's what I heard from Otto Gann who was so pleased with his first place that he helped me fill the trailer with his horse manure after we downloaded his pumpkin. I brought it to the home patch...
Thanks for the diary pictures Martin too! Michel

And yes Martin, the Zygadlo pumpkin and yours in 2003 were as squashy as they come so they definitely don't count as pumpkins! Michel

Sorry folks! The article in the paper says only that Peggy Zygadlo was NOT at the weigh-off this year....
Guess I need to brush up on my German and I should have recognized Martin's and Peter's pumpkins in the picture... Michel

Congrats Sophie good job! After it was´nt abel to take a fruitset on the main, my 977 did a very late fruitset on a secondary. But I give that fruit a blast at the size of 100 lbs, probably with to much calcium power. It was a good looking white/cream one. Sorry I get only 1 seed from Bret, I would try em again next year.
