Hi Fred

Nice to hear from you. That 1173 is a monster. When I posted the picture it was at 650 when most Mid-European growers were having fruit at about 200-250 lbs (like myself, lol) and it was a real shock to most, which was intended, as I must admit.

That 1173 is growing in Italy in Sergio Moretti`s patch (moro here at bp.com) and the pic was taken when I visited him for the second time in the season about two weeks ago, while we were on vacation at Lake Garda, not far from where Sergio lives. He has 22 real good plants of top notch seeds in a huge patch and the 1173 is his best. So it is definitly doing great in Italy. The shape isn`t that bad as it looks.

The gag with the pic was Sergio`s idea for those who want to know and I still enjoy the reactions, lol.

I have taken some more pics of the fruit, which I will post these days.

Now what is my 1173 doing? It had a good start but really suffered from the heat wave we had. It got my best/sunniest spot in the patch and so it suffered most of the plants. The tip of the main was burned AND snapped on itself at about seven yards out. The same with a huge back vine that snapped on itself. I am having a fruit close to where the main snapped. Far out enough and growing at a nice pace meanwhile. I hope it catches up soon with the other fruits.

Fred, I hope you are doing great this year too. Remember, I put my money on you as the next WR holder! All the best!

Heino
