I known this has been discussed a few times but I have a quick two part question. I am trying this summer to boost ca levels in my fruit. I have found Ca nitrate but I'm concerned about appling it directly to growing fruit as the nitrogen content is near 15%. I believe it will burn the fruit. I have a water soluble kind of ca nitrate if I premixed it ahead of time will the nitrogen content burn away if left open for period of time? How will this application affect the soil PH?

Dilute.......nitrogen content is in the form of a salt, so it won't "burn away".......affects on pH are negligible, but it definately won't do anything to lower pH.

I've got this idea in my head that Calcium Nitrate is just a simple mixture of Calcium Carbonate(ie Ground Limestone) and Ammonium Nitrate does anyone know how it is made?

Calcium + Nitric acid = Calcium Nitrate Ca(No3)2 * H2O

Thanks,I was confusing it with Calcium Ammonium Nitrate(CAN).
