Hey all...I have an additional patch this year around 4000 sq ft with a pH of 7.6 and am looking to knock that down toi at least 7. What rate of sulfur or other product should I be using? Thanks!

Hey Steve,

5 pounds is about it for 1000 sq ft one time. More than that tends to shock the plants. You can reapply it every 3 months without harm.

Another choice is to use Canadian Peat however it would take about twenty 5 cu. ft. bales to drop into the 7.0 area.
That would raise your humus up to above 10%. This offers some other stability too. Water retension will be greatly improved. Your continued addition of manures and compost will maintain the level of humus if you can get an average of four inches on over all each fall.

One word of caution.....till and water that peat in until you are assured that the natural baled dryness is very well watered into your patch. The only way this could hurt you is to not water it in well. After watered in is is actually easier to maintain good water level in your patch.
