I am considering putting some coir peat on my patch next spring to lighten up my soil structure. Don't really know only what I read, but would like some input from people who have actually used it. Is there anything I need to know and please list your pros and cons. Thanks, and Happy New Year.

I thought about using coir to lighten up my heavy clay soil. I chose not to use it because it decomposes and takes beneficial microbes away from your plant. I used Vigoro perlite that I bought at Home Depot to loosen up my soil.

Sorry, no good advice from having used either product, 'cause i have not, but, if you have a farm nearby of any kind, some weigh of getting copious amounts of Alpaca or horse or cow manure (may have already been stored at the farm 6-12 months and then it needs to be tilled in whenever, the sooner the better) combined with 3-5 pounds per 1000 SF of Bio-Grow Endo Plus from Holland's Land o' Giants and a soil test in the spring a month before amending and then adjusting/amending from the results, you'll have what i consider to be attainably-better SOIL activity results; i REALIZE that everybody's a little like me and we wanna go the least-expensive route, whereby the manure would cost you about 100 bucks total for 4 honey wagons full and the Myco would be about 400 shipped to your door, but the worms, bacteria and Mycorrhizae (fungal network) would have a field day with this new environment together and then add in a HDA-winning seed and your inventiveness? Good to go! I am just laying out what for ME would be the scenario if i had my manure spreader fixed...Alpaca 1/4 mile and Horse 3 miles away...I USED to routinely grow bigger pumpkins, just by default. Gotta fix it, lol! DEPENDING on the size of your pumpkin patch, all amounts will be To Be Determined; Take all this as you will, with many others' opinions soon, probably, as I just had about 10 hours of decent sleep for once, so, BOINNNGGG! lol----eric g
