Has any one that has a septic system, tryed growing in the drain field? My system is wet a couple hunderd feet from the end of the drain field. Looks like a good place to try a pumpkin. Plenty of water and ferts.
I was thinking about plowing up a spot on the edge of the wet line and letting the roots go find the water. Root rot could be a problem? Any comments?

Roots need air too. Could be a problem. But one that's measured by degree. I wouldn't make it my primary spot. But I'd darn sure put a "good enough" selection in there & see what happens. Be sure to do a soil test first so as to make sure you're not wasting your time. Ph, Nitates, & excessive Phos. come to mind.

Appalachian Mtns.

I grew the 650 Lloyd '99 plant over my septic line last year. It took off at about the same time as the roots should have gone that deep...didn't fertilize the plant either.
