Linus I have access to peat. Will peat help with the PH too as I believe peat is at 7.0 Ph.Even though my nitrogen is low it is within a study the PGPG did on pumpkin soils of growers

Peat moss generally has a PH of 3.5 to 4.5. You can also add a lot of leaves. Cheaper and a renewable resource.

Thank you everyone for the help,I have added leaves every year and my OM is high but still can handle more.I will add peat this year too.I also plan on alfalfa pellets for a low nitrogen boost.

At a PH of 8.3 alot of that potassium is suspended in the soil solution and not really bound to soil particles. You could easily flush you soil with water and wash a considerable amount away. to lower your PH i would add sulphur now but being in montana there is very little time for it to work and you wouldnt see any change until late spring early summer since it requires microbial processing to work. The amount of reat you would need is considerable to lower PH a full point having. You have only given us a slight glimpse into your soil test, more can be understood if you post the entire test results. You could also email it to me at bryan_langley@amat.com and i can see how out of balance it is.

Next season using an acidifying nitrogen would help alot such as ammonium sulfate.
