I got 3 pounds winter rye for a cover crop.
After doing all soil prep.....when is the best time to throw this seed down?
Does it germinate quick and like cool weather and alot of water or what?
I figured I will throw it down now, and continue to lay down leaves in the next few weeks.

if you lay down leaves on top of rye it ain't gonna work, the leaves will act as mulch

Till the leaves in first then plant the rye. Rye germinates best between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If you want a cover crop that will germinate below freezing then try fava beans. They will germinate down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit but the colder it is out the harder it will be to germinate them.
