I am adding kelp to my patch. I saw a couple post about using alfalfa pellets. Is it good to use both or do they do the same thing? Alfalfa is cheaper then kelp but that isnot always better. Would alfalfa do anything to the om %.

As always thanks for the help.

Tim,

I am planning on adding both for different reasons. The kelp (about $65 for a 50-55 pound bag) has benefits such as minerals and amino acids that will help with root growth. I use the alfalfa as a cheap source of nitrogen (about $6 for a 100 pound bag). Check the label, some pellets have salts which you do not want.

Don't know about the om%.

I'm using both this season. Yes, the alfalfa would raise the OM a little.
