I would like to get started growing a giant pumpkin, have just started reading about it, and looks like there is a lot to learn. I have a very good patch of ground where I grow tomatoes and flowers that are twice the size of my neighbors' plants. I suppose the first thing I need to do is get my dirt analyzed. Where can I get this done so I know how to proceed? Also, is it too late to get hold of some good seeds? Thanks for any help.

Never too late for seeds.

Illinois must have a cooperative extension service or a decent ag school. BRB

Thanks for the leads. I will follow up and also I plan to buy the "How to grow giant pumpkins II" book. I work a lot of hours through the week, so, hopefully I can get up to speed before planting time. Thanks again!

Hey beanhead2, it's great to have another potential pumpkin fanatic in Decatur. Why don't you drop me a line. I'll be glad to help in any way I can. I have plenty of good seeds you can have. My e-mail is triboutpop@msn.com. You'll probably also want to join the IGPGA. I agree with Dan (unkadan) on agri-energy.
