Does anybody use sheep manure?
Is sheep manure good?
I have horse manure but it contains sawdust.
I think sawdust isnt good for the soil.
Or do I delude myself?
What would you use?
Sheep manure or horse manure with sawdust.

Thanks
John

i have used it for the last few years in the form of crushed dags (any guesses where that bit is) The only prob is since it not procesed you gain alot of weed seeds. If you can get it in a pellet form it will have been heat steralised to kill weed seed first.

If the sheep manure came from an indoor area that also contains urine it will be SMOKIN' hot(high in salts). Alot of folks with sheep have indoor areas in the winter for lambing in the cold and such... Along with the manure there will likely be some sort of bedding material and old hay mixed in and packed down solid from their sharp hooves. This does a couple things... 1. The bedding acts like a sponge and soaks up and holds the urine. 2. With the major compaction happening their will be no air and very little break down occuring in the waste... This is why when you clean this material out (sometimes 2 ft. or more thick)and expose it to air it gets very hot very fast. This material should be composted COMPLETELY before use. Let the new pile get rained on to help rinse the salts.

Great stuff if well composted. Sheep and Goat manure have less weed seeds than other manures because of the way their digestive system works. Very little gets through. Horse manure on the other hand will have a lot more weed seeds.
