Here is an article that I recently found. I know that it is in reference to grape growing...But.. grapes and pumpkins have similar nutrient requirements and are affected by the same diseases. This information is intended for informational purposes only. The thing that I found most intriguing was the "cumulative" effects of compost. Hope this helps!

John, I have taken a close look at this article also. I find the nitrogen and OM link very interesting indeed. Some of my latest research into BES has been focussing on the relationship of high soil levels of OM and ammonium nitrates in the soil possibly inhibiting the uptake of Ca.
