Ok, now that we got the molasses problem solved, what do you think about this one. What effect will the cholorine from our city water supply have on all the beneficial bacteria and fungi I'm trying to develop??
Here are our average numbers:
Chlorine .7 ppm Chlorine Dioxide .2 ppm Chlorite .86 ppm

In the perfect world we'd let our irrigation water stand so the clorines evaporate before use. In the real world we rely on the resources we have. A friend who is a microbiologist likens the chlorine to a gnat flying into the windshield of the speeding bus. The impact is too small for concern.

.7 is about mid range for a municipal supply (assuming that's the free chlorine residual). Ususally they try to keep them around .2-.3 to balance out the killing power vs. taste thing, although i've seen it as high as 1.5 or so in drinking water.
like steve said, it's really a drop in the bucket compared to all the biological activity in the soil.
