Add it in the spring around your seedling's root ball when you transplant it into the ground. You can also add a pinch at each leaf nod when your burying your vines for maximum coverage, but some say it's not required. I've even added it into my germination pots when I put the germinated seed into it. Make sure it comes in contact with the roots though. I would think a 1/2 pound should be plenty for your patch.

Plant Health Care (PHC) has done some extensive research on their VAM Mycorrhizal inoculants on cucurbita but has never bothered to publish or label their products for vegetables. I've asked them to start doing this & they claim they will.

Cheapest I've seen (about $7 less than other places) and looks like good stuff (has 7 endo, most I have seen is 8 endo). Haven't seen the one Steve mentioned.

Another one http://www.groworganic.com/item_ISO700_PowerOrganicsMycorrhizalRootBoos.html
I understand that the plant only needs to come in contact with just a grain or two to become innoculated so just a bit in the transplant or seed hole should do the trick. Doc had a great idea of putting it in a pepper shaker with the holes overdrilled and then "shaking" some in each hole. I also think we are mostly interested in ENDOmycorrhizal fungi. I am using this year for sure. The claims are amazing.
Does anyone know if putting some at each node would be good or overkill. I think once "innoculated" it covers the whole plant for life so would be overkill.

Does the cold weather kill the existing mycorrhizal fungi which I have bought previously, or will it be fine in my shed over the winter? How about keeping nutrical in the cold shed over the winter? Any comments on strage of AG products such as these, fungicides, pesticides or whatever and thier potency after a hard winter in the shed?

It is best to avoid extremes when storing anything that is alive even if it is a dormant inoculant. While Mycorrhizal inoculants dont require refrigeration, that would be the best place.
I checked around & didn't see anything that suggests freezing is a problem for dormant spores. I'll call our vendor today & ask.

Rock,
I have clients who store inoculants under questionable conditions. Our primary concern for Pumpkins is VAM or ENDOMycorrhiza.
My PHC rep says....
"PHC puts a two year dating on our product. The reality is that ecto will basically last forever. PHC has done efficacy tests on our endo and it was still viable after 4 years. PHC is quality conscience which is why we have the two year dates. Endo has some moisture in it which is why it is better to keep out of the prolonged freezing areas in the winter. This would be 20 degrees F or less. Next to the water heater would be better if prolonged colds are a reality."
Based on this I would store VAM indoors even if it is a warm area rather than outdoors where temps may fall below 20°F.

See what happens when I do this from the office with the phone ringing off the hook?
Correction:
Mycor™ Flower-Saver 3-4-3 plus Rhizo-Inoculants 10 lbs = $31.20 Mycor™ Plant-Saver 4-7-4 plus Rhizo-Inoculants 10 lbs = $22.90
Jeez!

Use it on every node. It does not spread on it's own. It only innoculates the root which came into contact with it.

I gave $65.00 for a 40-pound bag through pumpkinsupply.com last year. It was under the brand name M-Roots.
