In a recent post someone mentioned what the Calcium to K, and what the Magnesium to K ratio should be. But of course, I can't find the post and can't find where I put the information! So if someone can help me I would appreciate it. thanks KathyT

Kathy,
I don't subscribe to the theories proposed in the 1950's by William Albrecht but here it is clipped from an article:
Albrecht proposed an optimum base saturation ratio of 65-75%Ca, 10-15% Mg, 2-5% K, 0.5-3.0% Na and 10-15% H. Low Ca and high Mg or K are thought to "tighten" the soil, reducing aggregation and degrading physical properties. Supposedly, this decreases beneficial soil biota and humus formation, weakens crops, and increases pest insects, diseases and weeds (Schonbeck). The agricultural research community has largely ignored or rejected the base saturation approach to fertility management (e.g., Goldstein 1990; Liebhardt 1981).
