In the last couple of years this has become available here for animal bedding.I'm wondering about using it as an alternative to leaves(none around here)It has absorbent qualities and looks like it would last in soil for a year or two.Anyone have any experience of it?

organic matter is important what ever you use the carbon ratio is important too. c/n 20/1 not much higher.
