What is your lowest winter temperature. There are several to choose from. Legumes or Cereals.

Are you looking for a cover crop for over winter or just for the summer? Over winter, Rye is a good choice. sow in it in the fall, work it in, in the spring.

I'n my patch this year was the 1st time for a cover crop. I used winter rye it germinated as low as 34f, and kept on going, the draw back was i had alot of grass pulling during growing season, im going to mix next fall with other crop covers, but it did work great! And i'll till a little deeper not much 2 to 4 inc, and let it layer
