see, for the last three years i have planted an
AG in this one spot, Spot #2.
i actually grew my very first pumpkin of "size"
in this spot in '00, a 363.2 from Joel Holland seed.
i forgot what i grew in #2 in '01 and '02, nothing impressive, i guess!
anyway, in '03 i grew my 728.5 and had a nice one on the weigh to 700+ but it rotted from the blossom end and from the stem end....a 735 Pukos in '04, and a #16 Gerry in
'05, each of those small plants had small pumpkins on them and i am
plotting to give up planting anything there except a
few water barrels, lol....spot #1 i have had okay luck with
(575 in '05, 510.6 in '06...hmmm, is there a ".X" trend?
and a 400 pound cull on the 845 Bobier in '03, a bad year all 'round for me.) and spot #3 has done okay for me as well, with my 501 in '05 being grown there.
here are my soil test results. if anyone thinks any of these levels spell disaster to a would-be 1000-pounder,
please let me know here. i realize that the problem could also be "down the road", like a soil pathogen that wakes-up
just to cause me grief, but i figured i should at least ask.

pH 6.8

in lbs./acre:
____________________
phosphorus 678
potassium 1130
magnesium 1225
calcium 13170
aluminum 12
iron 12
manganese 68
zinc 47.2
OM= 13.3%
nitrate 117
salts----mmho/cm=0.290

recommendations were:
#per 1000 sq. ft.:

Nitrogen= 2.1-2.5
phosphate= 1.1
potash= 1.1

any ideas would be appreciated.
no pressure, either. i would probably plant one
of my own seeds there even after fixing a possible problem. EG thanks!

Eric,

Without making any organic additions I'd reach for a cheap bag of 20-10-10 & spread it at 10 lbs per 1000 sf tilled to 9".

I think Tremor's idea is much cheaper but here's some more ideas...
ammonium sulphate or ammonium nitrate
super phosphorus
fulvic acid or humic acid
You could use coffee grounds as a side dress which is a slow-release source of N.
Loosen up your soil.
Epsom salt
