Have any growers used sheetrock/drywall rather than buying bags of gypsum? Sheetrock is made from Gypsum is easily found at consrtuction sites where new homes are being build. I have recently put some in my patch and used the rear tine tiller to break it up. Hope this was not a mistake? What are your thoughts. Brian

Sheetrock often contains additives that are unstuitable in the patch especially fire rated wallboard. The regulat wallboard has at minimum glues & binders that roots don't need. It is also very hard to break it up & spread it accurately. Buy real gypsum. On a price per pound basis, it's cheaper & a LOT easier to work with & won't hurt your plants when used properly.

Don't do it. I had a one-foot by one-foot section lying around a few years ago, and said, "What the heck?" So I smashed it into little pieces and left it out there.
Years later, those same little pieces are still visible from time to time. Unbelieveable considering the water and weather. But there they are, certainly not helping anything.
