I am planting a cover crop for the winter and adding the composted manure in the spring.

but is it also possible to turn over your grass as you would winter rye? or would the grass continue to regrow & become a problem? or should i just compost the sod?

Turn over or till.....If tilling grass, by the third light tilling, it will nearly all be, on the way, to being humis, in you patch. Add a some molasses, to up the bacterial, attack forces.

What ever you do should be done in moderation. I have used large quantities of leaves. They come with there own drawback though in that they tie up nitrogen. Doc may disagree with me, but I will be adding urea 46-0-0 this fall to gain back some control over my ever increasing OM component.

Kathy - As soil prep only. I believe you can go as much as 4oz per gallon per 1000sq.ft.

I think 4oz/gallon is the starting point, up to 8oz/gal for soil prep.
