A & L recommended I add so many pounds of Nitrogen per 1000 sq ft of my soil. I have been adding OM for years, fertilize during each season with soluble fertilizer etc.
What should I use to bring the Nitrogen content up and how do I convert pounds of whatever it is into pounds of "nitrogen"?
Thanks!

let's say you found a bag of 33-33-33...and it weighed 10 lbs...then it would be 3.33 lbs of nitrogen, 3.33 lbs of phosphorous, and 3.33 of potassium...urea has a reading of like 49-0-0 so ten lbs of that would give ya 4.9 lbs of nitrogen..potash is label 0-0-60..so ten lbs of that would give ya 6 lbs of potassium...The numbers are the available percentages by weight. so if ya want to apply 10 lbs of nitrogen....you would need 20 lbs of 50-0-0 ...or 50 lbs of 20-0-0...Does that help? maybe need someone who can explain that better.

I appreciate the idea, but nitrogen doesn't come in a pure form, it is bound to another substance and how does one figure that into the equation?

Those numbers are the percentage of pure ingredients. Urea is 50-0-0..so for every pound of material 50% would be nitrogen. or 1/2 of a pound..all the rest is either filler or spreading material. does that make sense.
