Upon return ive got many nodes with top and bottom roots trying to establish 2-3 inches long ill be burying/training like crazy tomorrow. Is there a window of time at which these roots will give up? I expect the bottom roots might have more gusto, but would like everyone's thoughts on the subject. Also got some females, its grow time everbody!

I think the answer is no in the sense that root will keep going to some degree even if the tip died while you were gone. It will continue to go as soon as you cover it with moist soil/medium.

Ideally, I do think you want to bury the roots/nodes before the root tips suffer any mortal stress. The exposed toots will either away eventually (probably as soon as the plant is stressed)

I think it's still alive and viable until it dries up and dies. If its still white, get some soil on it and you'll be good. Everyone of those roots contributes something to the overall growth of your pumpkin!
