I have seen it on both secondary and main vines. It is usually stress at some time during the development of the vine. A typical example is a pot bound seedling. The solution is to cut off the end and let a tertiary take its place.

Thanks guys. Everything else is growing ok. My first dozen or so of leaves were huge and I was thinking too much N maybe they robbed from side vines. If I clip these ends will tertiaries take off for now the seem slow to develop.

That’s a plant I wouldn’t be afraid to add some urea in the next mix with a good watering...sorry to see the critters take out the maters!

Thanks Chop, I'm after them critters I'll continue to chase the tomato dream next season. Gonna take your advice be a more aggressive next feeding if I abort a kin it's still early, never expected a pollination til July anyhow.

So from your pictures I noticed a few things first your soil looks hard possibly clay, you need to loosen this up which can take years. Your plant looks a little yellow-ish So I wouldn’t be afraid to foliar feed every day kelp, fulVic acid and some fertilizers. But also you need to check for bugs make darn sure squash bugs and vine borders are not attacking your plant.

One more thing I just thought about next year I would grow the plant towards the trees your tree roots could be getting underneath your plant and sucking up the nutrients

Yep soils gonnna take a couple seasons. Surface dries fast, might as well be concrete. Ive been concerned with the trees as well. One season at a time I'll keep posting. You guys are awesome, thanks for the help.
