On the main vine if you are covering the leaf node and cutting back the leaf to one leaf , where are the secondaries growing from , do you let every other leaf node grow. I'm confused on this issue?

Depends on the spacing. I have never had to purposely cut off the secondaries prior to pumpkin set. Let them grow.

The secondaries grow off the main vine. They stager themselves off the main, one on the left side next one on the right and on down the line. Don’t cover the leaf node on the main until your secondary grows enough that it won’t get buried. There will be vines that want to grow off the secondaries, pinch those off. Aside from a leaf and a secondary you’ll have a blossom that comes out typically early in the growing stage this will be a male flower let it grow. Eventually down the line on the main vine you’ll have a female flower it’s the one that has a small round baby pumpkin just below the blossom about the size of a pea early on. That’s the one you want to pollinate depending on how far down the main vine typically at about 10 ft or so. Keep learning from this site as time progresses you’ll learn more. Always ask questions. There is no dumb question, unlike myself there’s professionals here that will guide you through your season. Best of luck and welcome aboard. PS be prepared to overwhelm yourself with information from this site.

It’s very important to not bury the vine until the secondary pops out or it’ll not emerge. They grow at each node and typically change sides.

Try to find a experienced grower in your area and have them show you how,why and where to prune the plants. joel holland sells great dvd,s that show how and where to prune.Theres are some utube videos with that info

All the pruning is to keep the plant from growing into a tangled inefficient mess .
