Plants were put in ground early May and they have started producing this week. I have about a dozen females on 6 plants. Any suggestions on adding nutrients without blowing out the pumpkin or should I just keep up with fish emulsion every two weeks along with compost.

I generally don't fertilize until the pumpkins are beach ball size. Too much nitrogen too soon can cause them to abort. And then I need a good reason to give extra fertilizer. I try to get my soil right to start, but heavy rain can leach out nitrogen. If they start to slow growth too soon, I will give them a little high potash like tomato food. Your fish and compost shouldn't be too bad as long as you don't put it on too heavy.

I was using Neptune's Harvest 2-4-1 one tablespoon per gallon of water every two weeks and have scaled back to one tablespoon per two gallons. I felt that I might have been putting it on to soon. Thanks

At only 2% N, you would need to dump a lot on to over apply the N. I decided to start fertilizing one plant/ Last night I noticed it wasn't as green as the rest of the patch and this morning weight gain was down. I will use Miracle Gro tomato food in the hose sprayer next time I water and see how the plant responds.
