I have an area that is roughly 16x42. Is this enough space for two giants or should I only plant one here? Thanks all.

I would either do two flag shape, or a christmas tree with the main going down the 16ft then doing a 90 turn or a u turn

depends on what you want. If you want the ultimate biggest, then probably one plant. Last year in my community garden I had a 15 x 40 area. I grew one plant in a spider pattern. If you wished more pumpkins, for options as far as breeding or just looking for pretty display fruit, you could grow 3 plants in that area. Last year there were 3 growers that grew in excess of 700 pounds in 150 sq ft area. No right answer as to how many plants.

I'd do 2 - growing just 1 plant and putting all the eggs in 1 basket is tough. I know from experience. You could always grow one 450 sq foot plant and the other at 200 sq feet. There are so many factors that can end a season in just 1 hour and an additional plant is a hedge against let down.

Thank you all. This gives me a lot to think about.

How do you grow the flag pattern?
