(Sorry for the essay) I did a little research but didn't quite find answers. :) Fist time growing Jack O Lantern pumpkins. I have 4 main vines going with many branches off if them. Planted in late June in mid-TN. Doing what I can to water them with help of lots of rain this Summer. From my research, I've read you may have many male flowers bloom and half or less females. Sounds about what mine seem to be doing. I've seen the bees pollinate. My main issue, it's mid-August and I have 1 pumpkin I see starting to grow. Oh, I did plant some mini hybrids and one of those if fully grown but that's all. The start of all four vines look very worn out. Is this normal? But, they are growing longer each day and sprouting new buds. As a new comer I feel like I should have more than 1 pumpkin starting to grow, or am I being impatient? The first vine, half looks dead with wilted leaves while the new portion is still healthy and growing. So, back to it, am I impatient expecting multiple pumpkins to have started growing? Or is my first year of growing null? Thanks for advice.

The dead vine is prolly from a squash vine borer...if by Jack o latern pumpkins you mean regular field pumpkins and the plant looks healthy, stop watering them..(unless your outside the sun belt)..they should produce on their own if you are getting a good flower response ...there's still time..

(You could also try ending a couple of the vines...tell the plant it's time to take care of business ..

Don't know if you have a fertilizer program. Perhaps too much nitrogen and not enough phosphorus? late June is a really late start, at least 5 weeks late, they might just now be ready to set fruit.

Sorry, it was late May as for the seeding. I don't see an option for adding pictures. As for fertilizer, the only thing I've done is put MiracleGrow plant food on them twice, about a month spaced out.

I think if we were to do a tissue sample we would find we have the same problem It came with the bugs. Cucumber beetles and squash bugs. The cucs strip the outside of the vine and rot sets in, and the squash bugs get under the vine and eat and leave yellow vine disease. With all the rain I have gotten, I have had to deal with some mildew, too. With out doing some testing, I may not be able to say exactly what has caused my problems, but my plants are doing exactly the same!

First, where are you in mid TN. Second for jack-o-lanterns (field pumpkins) your timing is about right for Halloween fruit depending on variety. Our heat here makes pollination here tough. Seems like we always get a hot stretch where the days hit in the mid 90's when need pollinations to occur. Any number of diseases or insects could be your leaf problem but I suspect downy mildew. It's a real problem this time of year. Contact your county agent ASAP. They should come out and help with a diagnosis. They can handle it with pictures and calls to the state if they are not sure what it is. In some cases they will send samples.
