i live in Minnesota so I started the seeds inside like I always do. This time when they popped out of the dirt the leaves are curled inward and don't look healthy. They have been up for almost a week. I used the same soil for my other veggie seeds like squash dukes etc and they look great.
Any clues.? Wondering if I should start over?
Any help would be great

Hi Meister - I am in MN as well, but will caution you that I am a first year grower - My 2 cents - I haven't even started yet and don't plan to start seeds until around the 20th. I know other experienced growers in our area have not started yet either. Also, it depends if you are going to protect them with a hoop house, heating cables, heater, etc..... If you have more seeds, I would start over. Why risk your season on a questionable plant? Let me know if you need some new seeds, I can send you some if you need. It is easy to get the itch seeing others in different parts of the country starting so soon, but remember you're in MN :)

If you are talking about the cotyledons you should give it some time. If you are talking about the first true leaves you might have an issue. Either way I'd give it some time. Like qtip said you are pretty early. Lots of time yet.

what is this the minnesota convention?-
i am planning for the weekend of april 15th for start of at least 3 of my four planned pumpkins..havent made a single cut yet on building cold frame, just got my soil tests back...procrastination in getting ready might be my downfall this fall

the cots don't really matter to me... I have some that roll up and some that are super flat... I cut mine off later on anyway so I don't care what they look like.

Yup its that first true leaf, and the ones after.. Ive had great cots,but no first leaf developed... was a bummer.

a picture is the best way to get good useful advice.

as stated above, the cotyledons can be misshapen by a lot of factors, like:

1. Genetics
2. seed maturity
3. what the seed was soaked in.
4. what kind of soil you started them in (especially if there is a fertilizer in it)
5. how much light it is getting (especially if it is high heat light)

And as stated above, the cotyledons aren't cause for too much concern. Their entire job is to give the plant energy until the roots and true leaves can form.
