I live in the middle of WA st and have a late growing season. I got a little antsy to get things going this year and got a couple of seeds going. I just got this guy in the ground(still way early but the wether has been crazy). Do I need to clip off the obvious male and female blooms to get it running? You need warmer weather to get it running or at least soil. Clipping off flowers is okay, but make sure you leave enough males to develop before pollination time.

Start over, that plant saw early stress somehow and is in a funk. Plenty of time to start a new one. Good Luck

@Linus, it's a "Big Max" sold by Burpee.

Cornhusk I have 2 Atlantics that are going in the ground this week after this last cold snap goes throughit's supposed to get down to 39 tonight :(

B92, unless you are growing your plant in greenhouse, we are still about a month away from going in the ground on this side of the state. At least in Wenatchee.

Here is some good info for you to read through b92.http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=509431 A good starting point for your first year. Speaking from experience it is best to wait until dbmickle suggest unless you have a greenhouse i started plants early a couple of years without a green house and they just sat there and never seemed to do much and then when they finally start to grow those plants had disease issues later in the season probably due to a poor root system. Better roots > healthier plants >Healthy plants> Faster growth> faster growth> Bigger pumpkins> bigger pumpkins> happier grower!
