Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle
|
As a new grower I get caught up in the amazement of growing 'big' kins and the heart break of problems that arise I sometimes forget to say thanks...not because I'm not thankful, just soooooo excited/desperate..depending on the situation!!! :) If any of you new growers has someone you think of as your 'mentor' don't forget to say thank you for all the hours and advice they give you!! I will start, if any of you wants to do so, throw a thanks here to the person who has helped you get this far!!

Dear Pumpking: You have spent so many hours emailing me that if your married I fear your wife thinks your having an affair with your computer mouse!! During work, during hours when you could have been sleeping- as there is 6 hours time difference between us- you patiently answer all my questions. You always answer my emails, and have even taken time away from your holiday to Skype with me and look over my plants!! I have enough graphs and charts to collapse a library shelf from all the information you have squirrelled away in my head!!! My S curves have never looked so good, even though it took me eons to 'figure' it out, you patiently explained it, marked and graded every S curve picture I ever sent!! You are the S curve king!!!! LOL In seriousness: THANK YOU. Without your constant advice I would not have the pleasure of having grown an 800+ pound pumpkin, and 8 others all over the 500 pound mark. It's growers like you who make this hobby such a pleasure! Someday, I hope I can help you as much as you have helped me!! Sincerely, "LB"

Yes, outstanding post. I'm the worst at saying thank you, and even worse at asking for advise or help. I've always learned by jumping in and making every mistake first, then coming here to research! I've appreciated so many on site, both experienced growers and these new growers, too. They get in here and probe you pros well! One this New Growers form Pap has always tried to respond to our repetitive ignorance and do so with some amount of decorum! He motivates, and humors us with his wit and wisdom. I would say you just can't say enough for the work for our hobby Ken is continuing to do with this community! Bar none, this hobby would not be what it is today if not for him, and I may not have received the insight to learn this! Thank Again, Ken!

I especially want to say thanks to Lloyd Bright, Chris Kent, Frank Mudd, Tennessee Dreamer(Dennis), and Hubbard(Mark) for all of your advice, answer to all of my "newbie" questions, and quick email responses when I need to know something. Man, that group is like the "Mount Rushmore" of giant watermelon growing. LOL

I want to also thank all of you for being a valuable resourse through this journey. I wasnt going to go to my local weigh offs cuz my kin is only 400 lbs but were encouraged by your posts to go for the education. Thanks again for your replies to my rookie questions. Learned alot. First time grower appreciates you!
