Hello, I am brand new to growing giant pumpkins. I have a question about my growing pattern. I have an area that I dug out and added soil. It is 20x8 and then it continues another 12x12. I cannot really do the Christmas tree pattern because of the thin area I have to work with. I do not want to do the flag shape pattern because I do not want to put my main vine up against the far edge of my wall because the footing prevents proper root growth. would I get good results if I plant the stump in the middle and bend secondaries to growing behind the stump and try to cram them in a skinny space? also, would it be best for me to put my stump in the most sunny end of the yard? or to put my stump on the less sunny side, and my pumpkin on the sunniest side? also, how far should I let my main vine grow past my pumpkin? Thanks

Main can grow to the end of the season. But minimum of 10' before and 10' after. The after the pumpkin main feeds it later in the season.

You really have no options other than a flag pattern. with only 8 feet of width. If you planted in the middle you could bend the secondaries behind like you are talking about but you would probably only have enough room to get 4 or five of them on each side. after that all your secondaries have to go straight out to the side and would only be 4 feet long. Do you have any pictures of your patch?
