I'm attempting grow an AG in Pittsburgh, PA — and so far, so good!

I was able to get some healthy seedlings (I have only planted 1 into the ground because of spacial constraints).

I planted it in a raised bed mound in a PBC framed mini-greenhouse covered in harvest-guard.

I have sprinkled Sevin all around the plant and even on it (I hope this won't damage the leaves).

I have also added a piece of foil around the stem to prevent SVBs (this was a recommendation from an employee at my local nursery.

I would appreciate any feedback/tips/or insights as to how to increase my odds of growing a giant!

Thank you!

Don't sprinkle Sevin on the plant..invest in water soluable contact AND systemic pesticides and apply with a 1 gallon sprayer.

SVB's....remove foil....see above. SVB's aren't partial to stems...they actually enjoy and wreck havoc on any and all portions of a plant...especially those parts not covered in foil.

Ask alot of questions and use the search function, lots of great advice here. Welcome and best of luck.

Replace the Sevin with Bifenthrin, no need for foil as 1320 says they will find a way around it. Sevin will kill cucumber beetles that's about it. Bifenthrin will kill all. Get some good fungicides. Start with Daconil it is cheap and universal. If you can spare the dough add Eagle 20 and use in rotation. Powdery mildey probably ruins more seasons than bugs do and nothing beats it like Eagle. Good luck!
