After i noticed it, I read on here about similar problem, and the person applied Captan to the tear... I did that. It looks like it's still growing. It makes me so nervous because itas so close to the pumpkin. There were flies all over it before I applied the Captan. It has since stopped dripping fluid and i see no more flies....do you think I did the right thing? Its approximate weight tonight is between 100 & 107 lbs. Plant is a 1610 Lieber....

you need to remove any rotting tissue CAREFULLY! otherwise the rot may continue to spread. I use a sharp knife and then a spoon. rinse with peroxide, dust with captan and fill any void with caulk. I had a Blossom end slipt Labor day last year on my 908 and it made it to early October and was used for the pumpkin drop at Stillwater MN. there was no rot in the pumpkin.

Use Sulfur instead of captan, it will heal that puppy up a lot faster.

I have about 6 slpits on the stem end about 1/8" deep x 8" inch's long from all the rain we had on my 1495 pumpkin. Sulfur heals it right up in a few days. Also check for stem stress. I grew a 1610 last year and it was cracking on the stem end, once a put plenty of slack on the main vine it stopped.

My 1495 is doing the same thing. Splits all over the face of it with fresh ones each day. I just sulfur them up and in a couple days they are scarred over. But then I have fresh ones to deal with.
