What happens if I select a pumpkin 10 feet down the vine and make a bunch of secondary vines and the pumpkin aborts or something? Where do I select the next one from? It could be a long ways down the vine!

My guess, anywhere, time will come into affect, you need enough time to grow it.

I guess my question is that they say have the "tree" of sub vines past the pumpkin. Does it effect the growth of the pumpkin if, say, half of the sub vines are behind the pumpkin?? It seems to me that the pumpkin won't get the benifit from those vines.

The answer is that your best fruit will grow on the main vine. You need to pollinate as many as you can on the main and pick which one to keep. After a certain amount of time, if you cannot get a main vine pollination, accept a secondary vine pollination. This may be trained to become the main vine. Otherwise, write off the plant and grow as many fruits that will set and use for porch pumpkins.

The other thing is,, if you get 2 poll. on the main vine,, check to see which one is growing faster,, then cut other off.
