I found a 1" blossom end split Today. it looked superficial but was very soft, so I excavated 1/4 inch of the the surface soft spot and found a crack going to the core. It is at 57 days and grew from 318 to 337 OTT in the last week. I rinsed it with peroxide and packed it with captan. So what do I do now? my weigh off is OCT 8th in Stillwater MN. At this point I want an official weight (even if it is DMG) and to save the seeds.

I usually fill the crack in with silicone caulk and make sure to keep the area dry. Apply more silicone as the pumpkin grows and the split enlarges. See you in Stillwater. Adam.

I filled the crack with caulk. In 4 days I'll remove the caulk. If it has continued to grow and doesn't smell, I'll re caulk it and try for a weigh off on the 24th. If it stops growing or smells bad, I'm cutting out the seeds and feeding the pumpkin to the cows.

the pumpkin is still hanging on. it is 360 inches OTT 3 weeks after splitting. it has steadily gained about an inch a day. I'm hoping to make 1000 lbs by the OCT 8th weigh off in Stillwater, MN. It will only be for exhibition, but at least I'll have a weight to go with the seeds.
