Don't know how its possible when the Kin only grew 11 pounds over night but I woke up with a split this morning. I posted a pic on my diary but it hasn't loaded yet. The split is about 3" long and about 1/2" wide and 1/2" deep. Also there are about 20 litle micro splits radiating around the pumpkin that are maybe an inch long and maybe 1/16" wide and deep. Is this salvagble? What do you recomend I do?

Its kind of different than most of the splits I found when I did a search. Runs perpendicular to the ridges and is on the fat part of the rib not down in the valley. It does not appear to go down into the cavity. Should I put some if this Captan stuff everyone talks about on it and hope for the best?

put sulfur of captan on it, keep it dry, maybe a fan,it should be fine.

That is an odd one. I agree with the advice given by sandbagger. I am a big fan of the use of a fan.

Did you keep it covered from the sun? Maybe the sun aged the pumpkin a little.

Looks superficial, no need to worry (in my opinion). Keep it dry.

Just applied Sulfer. Going to lay off the water and fert for a few days and see what happens.

I am wondering if this has anything to do with the weird shape.

IMHO, surface crack, that w/ a lil help will not hinder the growth of yer Monster pkn!!! Truly, a serious surface crack!!!! but should not inhibit further growth....treat w/ fungicide & keep it dry!!! Grow em BIG!!!! Peace, Wayne

Another question. It looks like the crack has grown slightly over the past two days. Not alarmingly so but it is still worrisome. Since the split is kind of wedge shaped with sharp edges it seems like it might be prone to keep expanding as the pumkin grows. Do you think it might help things to do a little surgery and widen and scoop it out so that it is more of a bowl shape with softer edges? Or should I try to keep as much skin on it as possible. I have the same problem with my "inbread" looking giant pumpkin. I had a split at the blossom end at 32 pounds and all I had on hand to fix it was caulking. I dont know if the pumpkin is growing anymore but it is definetly not rotting.I would say keep it caulked so stuff stays out of it.
