It looks like I will have 3 pumpkins this year ranging from 400 to 600 pounds. My question is has anybody used normal tarps (camping style) doubled over to load pumpkins onto trucks\trailers. Any other ideas woul be appreciated.

Doubled is key and yes, works great.

okay, I can see using the tarps (doubled) but how do you lift them? Man(woman) power?

At least 1 person for every 100 lbs.

Team B, they have specialized ones for pumpkins with handles usually 6x6 feet and rated up to 1200 pounds. Since I grow dinks, I figure not spend the money on the nice tarps and use some of my camping ones. It'll just be me and my 9 month pregnant wife lifting them.

Oh boy. I can see me hiring the neighbor kids to help load my prizes. No way I can lift with just one other person and I'm certainly not 9 months pregnant. You sure she doesn't have a pumpkin under that shirt? LOL!!!!

Haha, just kidding TB. I'll probably do what Ron said and have a guy to 100 pounds or maybe more.

I used the camping tarps last year no problem. Called all my neighbors about 30 min before I needed help lifting (that way they didn't have a chance to flake out). Didn't even have to bribe them with free beer.

Yeah Luke,You would have a hard time loading a melon with 2 people.Tie the four corners in a knot,so you have something to grab, fold the tarp so its just a little bigger then kin!you wont have to lift so high!Good luck my first 500 lber was heavy with 5 guys lifting its dead weight(out of balance)Have Fun!leave the wife out of the lifting pregnant or not!!

I have also used a cargo net. I'm lucky to have a tractor and we put a chain over the bucket and use a strong hook. We the pumpkins get around 1,000 be carefulful you don't fold it when lifting.

That's not funny Luke. Wife is carrying child, and that's it. Nothing else. Do Not let her any where near that pumpkin.

I hope you were kidding, but its hard to tell. Please let everyone on this forum know that you have absolutely no intention of letting the wife help.

Luke I have one you can borrow. Wish I was going to a cards game, I could get it to you. I will check on mailing to you If you like. Good luck and go Cards! Kreig

Thanks Kreig, another tough year for the Cards to say the least. Still a small chance though. I think I am covered right now with tarps since the kins are pretty much done growing so a heavy duty camping tarp should work.

Wally, relax. Read my 3rd post.
