Is it best to pollinate at all opportunities and select the best grower later, or should you wait until the site is at least a minimum distance away from the stump (removing all females until then)?

it seems this year most growers are starting to pollinate around 9'.
in previous year i have always waited until atleast 10' out, but told myself beginning of this season, no sooner than 12-13' out.....im still sticking to it, may be a risky thing but oh well.

Around here I pollinate any I can get to take and keep them until I get one in a better location to take -- After last year with the stretch of 40+ days over 100 degrees during pollination time learned to take what I could get until I had something better take ! Rather have one growing that isn't in an ideal location than wind up pulling a plant cause nothing would take.

my plants are only 2' long at the time with no flowers yet I dont think I will be even close to pollination by the 4th. Is this going to be a problem or just less time for growth.
