Hi, it's been getting colder at night. When should I start putting blankets on my pumpkins. If it gets colder than 50 degrees, 40 degrees? Thanks, Greg

Greg,, i use blankets a days after i pollinate.. and continue to do at nite till, WO time.. and shade them during the day,, opened,, but i live only 2 ft from the coldest place in UTAH,, lol,, hope this helps, curt

I've seen pap tell someone that lower than 60, put a blanket over it.

Ok, you convinced me. It's 51 degrees tonight so I just went out and covered them with a blanket, no lullaby though.

yep any temp below 60 i like to blanket any pumpkins still growing.this keeps the fruit warmer and also keeps the fruit from having to warm up again the next morning.

for those that have stopped growing ( like mine lol ) and are waiting to be picked for a weigh-off? i just leave a sheet on them so they stay as cool as possible.

i believe the sheet only on pumpkins that are just being held helps keep the fruit as fresh as possible. no night heat needed once its done growing.

The nights in the falls get pretty chilly. During the day I have just a sheet on it to get it warm,then at night I cover that with a large piece of old carpet padding and then a tarp to keep in the heat.Helps with those last few pounds.

A grower here in UT used an electric blanket and is caused a soft spot and eventual fruit failure...it was a big one too! I have used a heater inside a make shift greenhouse with no problems, but I would not put it right by the fruit or leaves.

I've been covering the fruit with blanket and tarp at night, in a make shift greenhouse with a 40 watt hanging light for heat.
