Soil up to the main vine to rest it on, slowly remove soil until it is down flat.

You can also cross 2 bamboo stakes in an X UNDER the vine to support it. Then when it is in the heat of the day lower the stakes a little at a time. You should be able to let it fall 2 or 3 inches at a time without cracking anything. If you are home all day, you can move it a couple of times to let it drop more.

I used the bamboo in an x and just left it there.

Easiest way to EVER get a vine tip to come down is to go back on the main vine 3 or 4 (sometimes more) from the vine tip (thats sticking in the air) and remove dirt out from under each of the leaf nodes untill you find which one it is that is holding your vine tip up, once you do this the vine will fall right down to the ground with out you hardly even having to touch it at all, no support or force is ever needed and works every time.
I grow 8 to 12 plants a year and have never had trouble trying to get a vine tip to come down thats going straight in the air and staying there that would take a few days for it to come down when I started using this method a few years ago . I have never had to use anything for the vine tip to force it down.
