My plant has run about two feet already and has about 15 flowers and two secondary vines starting. I removed the tendrils but have no idea what to do about all these flowers so close to where the vine comes out of the ground. Help please?

This thing is growing like a monster possesed. Guess I'll just use my best judgement and do a little pruning based on what information I could find on here.

IMHO leave them. No harm growing those male flowers. But, I think you are doing well to remove the tendrils.

Rich, after a flower opens(for one day), it falls off. I always remove them after they have opened so during the decomposistion process of the flower my plants doesn't catch something nasty.

I heard the blooms attract cuke beetles. Is that not right?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong,

but I beleive the blossums attract all kinds of bugs (when they bloom) by both color and scent (have you ever smelled one, they are very fragrant mid day at 85-90 degrees) AND if you are using a systemic insecticide it will kill the bees as well as the bad bugs. I remove them all the night before the bloom. The ones I need to pollinate with I take in the house and put in a cup of water. The rest go in the compost pile (500 feet away from the patch -- LOL)

After a pumpkin starts growing can you prune off the vine when it starts to fork off?
