If one is behind the other,,, I take it you mean on seperate leaf nodes,,,, like this,,,,
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=134096
If so leave them both on, so you can pollinate them both,,, let them get ten days old(or so) before you cull one(cull the weaker one),,,

Roger, depending on when you want to take yer massive pkn to a weighoff...the new lil pkns at the tip of yer main vine, will prbly be ready (depending on how early you spotted them) for pollination in a week to 10 days...I would let them both grow, and look for them to "pucker" (turn a lil orange at the tip of the flower) & then follow proper pollination guidelines. Follow proper controls when pollinating, keep them both for a few days, and then decide which one you like the best!!! Peace, Wayne

If pollination for these are too early (for yer plant, or yer weigh off,) then the practice of pollination has been good for you!!! Cull them early, and wait for proper plant size, or time frame!!! Hope this helps!! Peace, Wayne

Nic, lesson learned (I hope)... if unsure about a new growers ?, then ask the person to clarify? I think there are lots of new growers who do not post, just read ?'s and answers...!!! Hopefully none of them pinched off the lil pkn they would (should) be pollinating in the next week or two!!! Peace, Wayne

Well said Peace, Nic the whole late June/July thing isn't written in stone. That is just a time frame of when it needs to be DONE BY. My 1536 Van Kooten was set out May 2 and two weeks ago the main was over 12 feet long, with females. My plate size was good and I went ahead. Down south the sooner you can set the better.
