Hello,
I returned home today to find that the end of my main vine cracked and is about 70% broken (across not lengthwise). The end has started to wilt, so I built up some soil re-positioned it and then buried it in compost. I don't know what to do at this point. Should I terminate the main and try to have a secondary be my main? How do you train another vine to become the main? I can't post pictures right now so I need some best guesses. Thank you!

I would also be interested in learning how to train a secondary into a main. I snapped my vine too :(

Use bamboo tomato stakes or cut coat hangers to train a secondary.

poochies try putting some root tone on the wound then bury it. who knows it may work or may not.

A neighborhood dog got in my patch last night and broke the main vine at 10 foot.....Will a 10 foot main and a secondary as a main still be able to produce a big fruit?

do we choose a newly growing secondary near the break or a well established secondary near the stump?

The main I snapped is still growing but I worry that it wouldnt support a large fruit.

Without being there to evaluate, I'd suggest going with one that is close to the break and train it to where you want it to go

The end of my main died, so I'm going to go with the advice above. Thank you so much for all of your help, it is much appreciated!

Thanks everyone for the the advice. I also have a partial crack accross the main on one of my plants and may need to try and use a secondary along with Poochies and Tammy.
