Being new at this , i have a question about Giant pumpkin genetics. do individual growers keep records of their own pumpkins breeding? Is there an official place, records like this are are kept for public viewing or am I over complicating this. Im just curious to understand and find out more about this. thanks for the help

That is a very good question to ask. Growers do like to know the genetics of the pumpkins they have crossed. Most of us have joined aggc.org. It is an incredible site if you are a serious grower.

Is not knowing the ancestry of a seed something that will cause a disqualification at weigh-in (should one be fortunate enough to feed out an old big'un)? I'm green at this too and after seeing all these seeds being called by names and weights I was kinda wondering.

yes theres a form you must fill out with the following information. we got this form from the colorado growers group.
your name your age your sex your home phone number if available ( lol ) maritial status your pumpkins name the father and mother - not yours, the pumpkins all grandparents as far back as 1921 (no exceptions)
this is serious business. i hope you new growers know what your getting into. this aint no easter egg hunt ( lol)
