good growers may live closer to you then you think?
many new growers get discouraged after a season or two of little or now results and they give up. dont be one of them.
if you want help or am interested in visiting a good grower why not post below with your real name, an email addy or phone number? some type of contact info?
you may be surprised how close a good grower willing to help might be to you.

zap - you're halfway between Dave Clements and John Elliott. I'm not sure if Dave reads these this site, but i've emailed John for you.

This will be my first year growing also. I have been researching on the internet and reading books so far. I would appreciate having someone with some hands on knowledge to show me the ropes. I live in Marion, WI 54950 about an hour west of GreenBay.

Close second. The best post by far is Eddyz goes to Loews. I still laugh when I think of that one.

How about an interest of good growers that would be willing to help new growers in your area? Maybe they can respond on this link.

Good question...Finding a mentor is a good choice. Plenty of little and big things to find out from a seasoned grower. All the in's and Outs of the hobby. getting in contact with one certainly would be a good choice for anyone. Helps with motivation and friendly competition and comradere. In a few Years watch out for the Good O'l boys of Bristol....lol.....

thanks for the kind remarks wayne.
to me the pumpkin has been a source of excitment for adults and children alike for many generations.
you would be hard pressed to fing a more exciting up close experience once you have seen giant pumpkins growing in a field.
thats what got me hooked back in 1989. seeing all of ray watermans giant pumpkins growing in a field beside a country road
unfortunately back then information was not as easy to get as it is today. it took many years to learn what growers can now learn in a few days of research.... pap

I'm more than happy to help someone. Perhaps we can start a thread for this as suggested.
If you reside in California - Monterey County - go to my 2009 diary and send me an email. Also, if you're from out of the area and do not have anyone growing around you and want to come by the patch during the season to see how I do things that would be great too.
