Hello, I purchased 3 seeds from Holland's Land of Giants (Joel and Mari Lou Holland) The seeds were identified as Super Pumpkin Seeds 3 seed pack. The description stated that they were from pumpkins in the range of 700 - 1000 pounds. Do I need a different pollinator? I only have 3 seeds so I am also concerned about germination. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Karl

Buck, seriously...seeds from the Holland's are prbly very good seeds...although the genetic background is prbly not positive (open pollinated). Selfing seeds is not a terrible idea...(1725 Harp was self pollinated)...but not open pollinated. If you are looking for a few controlled pollinated type of seeds, give me a shout!!! wsmpeace@bellsouth.net Peace, Wayne

Hi BuckHunter, The seeds in the "Super Seeds" packets are mixed seeds from different pumpkins that weigh from 700 - 1000 lbs. We also offer individual seeds with a stated pedigree. All our pollinations are controlled, protected crosses. We offer the mixed seeds as a less expensive alternative for newer growers. I would be happy to set you up with a good pollinator for those if you wish. I hope you have a wonderful growing season and exceed your best expectations.

Hi Holland,

This is my first year so I have alot to learn. My comment about germination wasn't anything against your seeds. I have read different messages about the importance of proper moisture and maintaining 80 - 85 degrees. And many people state that filing the seeds is beneficial. Do you recommend doing this? Also, when it is time to plant seedlings that were started indoors do you remove the Jiffy Pot. Will the roots grow through the pot before it decomposes? Thanks, Karl

This what Joel Holland does in his videos: He files his seeds; he starts seeds in 4-inch pots in a box he constructs with a lid; germination mat is under the seeds, thermostat controls the temperature; he transplants seedlings when third leaf appears to 1 gallon pots cut in half vertically and duct-taped back together. After about a week-10 days he transplants outside.

I'm not trying to sell Holland's videos, but they are very helpful and precise in terms of showing his way of consistently growing giants 1300-1500+ lbs.

If you search the forums, you can get advice from other people on what works.

The roots will NOT grow through the pot before it decomposes, and will stunt the roots(bad,bad,bad).

Don't be afraid to plant twice as many seeds as you need.

Crap happens, and it's good to have backup plants.

Youtube might have videos.

I'm a 3rd-year grower. Finally starting to wise up, with a lot of help from my state club, and this web site.
