Yesterday I went by a gas station that had the cheapest gas in town, there was long lines of cars trying to get gas.
It reminded me of the 70s there was arguing and fighting
in the lines, people waiting for hours to get gas, i hope not but it sure looks like it

Yes. I was trucking race horses from Rosevelt Raceway on Long Island NY to near Ottawa Can. Left at 3am . The gas stations would only give you $5.00 gas. This is in Feb. Finally one attendant asked if I was heading to Can. I said yes. He sent me to apump at the rear of the station and gave enough to get home. You always have to stop at the border for the vets to examine the horses. Man, was I ever happy to get home.

Interesting post, Howard Dill took his first giant to Circleville, Ohio back in 1976 but I can not recall if he complained about the price of the gas? Was it the early 1970s? Danny

OK thanks, no worry about you age OLD ROOKIE, lol. So ya must have been earlier or Dad (Howard) would have something to say about the cost of his trip and the expenses leaving the farm here. For what a $100 maybe in prize money at the time? Boys and Gals the times have changed. Pumpkin growing contests have come a long way since then with prize purses of which I understand

I have vague recollection of the gas crunch in the early 70s. I seem to remember some states had an odd/even system to purchase gas depending on the last number your license plate.

I remember it happened twice. Once in 1973 and the other in 1979. I think 73 was worse Thankfully, at the time I didn't have far to drive to work. I can recall your day to get gas was dictated by the last number on your license plate. Odd and even days.
